Creating video “podcasts” can be a great way to promote your Second Saturday workshop.
David Tucker, a long-term friend of Second Saturday, shared the setup he uses.
A few notes:
- Although David has found this has found this setup to be a good solution for him, please do not consider the sharing of this information to be an endorsement.
- Other “phone cameras” would probably work well too but the focus of this article is on using the iPhone.

Shooting with iPhone for this type of work is much more efficient than setting up a video rig.
The Recording Setup
- Sennheiser G3 Wireless LAV Mic
- Rode TRRS-TRS Adaptor 3.5 mm
- Tripod Mount Vello CB-510
- RetiCAM Smartphone Tripod Mount
- MoviePro App for iPhone
- Savage 3 LED Light Kit (Battery Operated!)
This is also a great setup for Facebook Live except you need to swap out Mics with something like the Rode VideoMic Me.
Additional Tips
- You can “mirror” your iPhone to laptop or iPad so you can adjust and compose.
- Strip out the audio channel of the recording to use as audio podcasts.
- Have a transcription of the recording created to post as content for blogs, Facebook, etc.
